Established in 1956, the Sisalation Prize is the longest-standing award offered by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. In 2001, the Prize was re-structured to establish the TAKE journals as an ongoing series exploring issues of contemporary concern to the profession of architecture.
The TAKE series bridges topical issues in architectural practice and academia and adds to the growing body of knowledge that will become a permanent architectural reference library.Australians, by world standards, are a population of homeowners, commuters and city dwellers, clinging to the fertile perimeter – over seventy-five percent of Australians live in urban areas. With essay contributions from 16 prominent thinkers, TAKE 1: Urban solutions: Propositions for the future Australian city looks to the future of the Australian city – from the federal city and the industrial fringe, to balancing built and natural environments, sustainability, and the need for human re-engineering.
